Located in the heart of the Riba Côa region, the municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo is made up of 10 civil parishes spread across 508.6 km² of territory.
Renowned for its idyllic natural beauty — especially the stunning almond blossoms that paint the landscape in February and March — the municipality is also rich in cultural and architectural heritage.
From majestic churches and chapels to remarkable monuments and breathtaking scenery, this is a destination where history, tradition and nature come together in perfect harmony.
With its highest points marked by the Historical Village of Castelo Rodrigo and the Marofa Mountain Range — crowned by the majestic Cristo Rei statue — the municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo is also shaped by the presence of three important rivers: the Douro, Águeda and Côa. The area is further enriched by the reservoirs of Santa Maria de Aguiar and Vermiosa.
Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo celebrates its municipal holiday on 7 July, commemorating the Battle of Salgadela — one of the most significant victories of the Portuguese Restoration Wars.
Geographically, the municipality borders Spain’s province of Salamanca, as well as the Portuguese municipalities of Pinhel, Almeida, Vila Nova de Foz Côa and Freixo de Espada à Cinta.
The municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo seamlessly blends its ancient history with cultural heritage, natural beauty, gastronomy and ongoing investment — with its warm and welcoming people standing proudly as the region’s greatest ambassadors.

The predominant grape varieties are:
• White – Síria and Malvasia Fina;
