The major winners of the 19th Beira Interior Wine Competition have been announced
29 gold medals were awarded, and the region's best wines were recognized

The wines awarded Gold Medals were revealed on the evening of July 4th at the awards gala for the 19th Beira Interior Wine Competition, held this year at Alfaiates Castle in the municipality of Sabugal. Among the honors presented, the winners for Best Beira Interior Wine, Best Wine (Female Jury Choice), Best Image, and Best Image (Female Jury Choice) were also announced.

Organized by the Beira Interior Wine Commission (CVRBI) and held on June 22 and 23, the competition aimed to select the wines that stood out most for their quality from among all the entries. According to Rodolfo Queirós, President of CVRBI, "the region has been on an upward trajectory regarding quality, made possible only through the effort and dedication of our producers. Participation in the competition is important to demonstrate exactly that."
Twenty-nine wines were awarded gold medals, with the standout being *Quinta do Cardo – Homenagem a Maria Luiza, Grande Reserva Red 2022*, which received the distinction of Best Wine of Beira Interior—the competition's highest honor. Another unique feature of the Beira Interior Wine Competition is the awarding of prizes for Best Image (awarded to *Ethos Vinho de Parcela, Red 2023*), Best Image (Female Perspective) (awarded to *Pombo Bravo, White Brut Sparkling Wine 2023*), and Best Wine (Female Perspective) (awarded to *Quinta do Currais Reserva Síria White 2023*).

For Rodolfo Queirós, "awarding not only the standard gold medals but also distinctions for Best Wine, Best Wine (Female Perspective), Best Image, and Best Image (Female Perspective) helps lend the region a unique and distinctive character. It is not a matter of discrimination—positive or negative—but rather of rewarding our region's wines based on more holistic criteria that encompass the diverse characteristics of consumers and a constantly changing market."

The awards ceremony for the Beira Interior Wine Competition was attended by Vitor Proença (Mayor of Sabugal), Rui Ventura (President of Turismo do Centro), and Francisco Toscano Rico (President of the Vine and Wine Institute), all of whom highlighted the value of wine and wine tourism to the region's economic activity.
