Who are we?
The Beira Interior Regional Wine Commission (BIRWC) was created through the publication in Diário da República II, nº189 of 17 August and started its activity on February 14th of 1994. Currently, for DO Beira Interior wine products, the Portaria nº 112/2017 of 16 March is in force, and for IG Terras da Beira products is the Portaria nº 104/2017 of 9 March (amendment to the Portaria nº 163/2011 of April 18).
Its mission is the certification, control and promotion of wine products entitled to the Denomination of Origin (DO) of Beira Interior and Geographical Indication (GI) of Terras da Beira; and as a vision to increase the notoriety and visibility of Beira Interior
Wines, always with the rigor and credibility required of this organization; as well as helping producers to increase their presence in the national market and in strategic markets, with differentiating wines, providing the consumer with a continuous and consistently quality.
With more than 70 members, including cooperative wineries, producers and bottlers, winegrowers-bottlers, and bottlers outside the region.
The CVR of Beira Interior has been chaired by Rodolfo Baldaia de Queirós, since November 30, 2018; having as production member, António Agostinho Monteiro, and member of trade, Luís Costa. José Madeira Afonso holds the position of President of the General Council.
The creation of the Beira Interior Wine Route; a territory route, it is an ambitious project that unites gastronomy, hospitality and all the landscape heritage, cultural and material of the region, through a structured wine tourism offer for you.
